Holiday home vacation on Malta and Gozo

The island Malta together with its neighbouring island Gozo form an independent microstate which is situated south of Sicily. On Malta and Gozo atraveo offers you around 150 holiday apartments and houses. The two islands not only impress with their seclusion in the midst of the Mediterranean Sea but also their scenic and cultural uniqueness as well as great climate are an equally attractive proposition. The long and colourful history of the island has Oriental, African, Italian and British influences which all have left their traces on everyday life as well as culture of the islanders and can still be witnessed to this day. The official languages on Malta are Maltese that has Arabic roots and English – which should make communication during your holiday far easier. Many of the atraveo holiday houses on Malta and Gozo are furnished to a high standard and often offer many amenities such as a private pool.

Malta – fantastic natural spectacle

Malta is both the name of the state as well as of the larger island. The island Malta particularly impresses nature enthusiasts. The rocky and partly rugged landscape offers its own unique charms with great trips possible either by foot or on mountain bike. The larger part of its coast is dominated by a rugged cliff coast which offers spectacular panoramic views. Beneath the cliff coast there are many caves which can be discovered on a guided diving tour. However the long rugged coast also has limited the amount of sandy beaches on the island – merely in the south of the island around the capital Valetta and at some areas in the north one is able to find some beaches. A holiday home with pool can though provide a lovely alternative.

Gozo – divers’ paradise in the Mediterranean

Gozo which is Malta’s smaller neighbouring island probably has the highest density of diving schools in the Mediterranean. That is not surprising as it has a unique underwater world and is a true paradise for divers. When on Gozo you should take some time to discover the cliffs and reefs around the island and learn more about the underwater flora and fauna of the Mediterranean. But the mainland of Gozo also has lots to offer. The partly bizarre looking rocky landscape is ideal for tours through the countryside and the temple complexes of the more than 6,000 year old megalithic culture (e.g. the impressive complex of Ggantija) are also worth a visit. For those who just want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life Gozo is the right place. Where could one better relax than in a sun lounger on the terrace of your holiday home?

Journey and mobility on Malta from a holiday house

The easiest option to travel to Malta is by plane. A ferry operates between the islands of Malta and Gozo several times a day. There is also a bus shuttle which connects Gozo with the airport. An alternative travelling option is taking a ferry from Italy to the Grand Harbour which is the port of Valletta (e.g. from Genoa, Salerno, Civitavecchia or Catania).
On Malta the public transport system works very well so that one does not necessarily need a rental car in order to discover the island. On Gozo public transport is not that well organised but due to its size the island can easily be explored on foot or bike.

Other destinations: Comino, Sicily or a tour with a water plane

A great idea for an excursion is a trip to the almost uninhabited island Comino situated between Malta and Gozo. The blue lagoon is ideal for bathing in the sea and sunbathing on the beach. Comino can be reached by boat during the summer from both islands.
Another option for a trip is Sicily that is in close proximity. Within just 90 minutes one can travel by speed boat from Valetta to Pozzallo on Sicily which is renowned for its volcano Mount Etna.
In order to experience the whole beauty of Malta and Gozo it is recommended to go on a trip with a water plane which does not only fly between the two islands but can also be booked for sightseeing flights.
